Skoog, George, merchant – Portland – born in Österplana parish, Västergötland, on October 20, 1879. He moved to America in 1900 and earned his living by working in sawmills in Arizona until 1902, when he moved to Portland, Oregon. Here he has worked in the woods, in saw mills, on river boats, in grain silos and with the grocery store owner Anderson located at 21st & Thurman St. Together with his brother he bought this business, and later bought his brother’s share in the store as well. Eventually he sold the entire store. In May of 1910 he bought and still operates another grocery store located in the building owned by Erik Helmer, on 21st & Northrup St. Mr. Skoog is a member of Foresters, Modern Brotherhood of America, Fraternal Brotherhood and Linnea. He married Hilma Benson from Halland in 1905, and they have one son. One daughter has passed away.
