Lavy, Arthur Simon, merchant — Portland — born in Göteborg on July 5, 1873. At age 15 he became a merchant apprentice in Hamburg and three years later, in 1892, he immigrated to America. He was employed in different trading companies in Chicago until 1901, when he started his own general merchandise store in Peshtigo, Wisconsin. He ran this store until 1906, when he moved to Portland, Oregon. After having run a store of his own until 1909, he took employment at Moyer, but in April 1910 he again started on his own with the Royal Shoe Company at 229 Morrison Street. He is a member of Linnea and the Swedish National Association and a charter member of the Scandinavian Brotherhood. He has been married and has two children (a boy and a girl).
